Elementary Education
Shaping Hearts and Minds for a Lifetime of Learning
At Pinewood, we believe every child is a valued image-bearer of God—created with curiosity, creativity, and a passion for discovery. Our students bring big ideas, inquisitive minds, and an eagerness to learn, and we are committed to nurturing those gifts.
Our program is developmentally tailored for each grade level, with a strong foundation in literacy and a commitment to excellence across all subjects. Every lesson is guided by the truth of Scripture, equipping students with wisdom, integrity, and purpose. Through engaging instruction, our teachers spark curiosity, cultivate a love of learning, and build a strong academic and spiritual foundation that will last a lifetime.

Developing the Whole Child

At Pinewood, we believe education is about more than academics—it’s about shaping the whole child. Our elementary program is thoughtfully designed to help children flourish intellectually, spiritually, and emotionally.
- Intellectually, students are guided to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and grow in their love for learning.
- Spiritually, they are encouraged to see themselves as image-bearers of God and to live with purpose and integrity.
- Emotionally, they learn to manage challenges, grow in empathy, and build lasting friendships in a supportive environment.
Academics
Literacy Essentials
In K-2, the curriculum integrates all the literacy components: phonemic awareness, orthography/spelling, reading with fluency and comprehension, and writing and grammar. In third grade, the curriculum continues teaching orthography with the other components of literacy chosen by the school (literature, formal grammar, and writing).
Literature
We read classic stories in grades K-6 because stories are powerful. Jesus Himself often taught using parables—short, memorable stories that carried deep truths about God and His kingdom (Matthew 13:34). Classic literature functions in a similar way: it captures the imagination, stirs the heart, and points us toward timeless truths about life, character, and morality.
Math
Hands-on learning: Students engage with manipulatives, structured activities, and real-world applications to develop a deep understanding of mathematical concepts rather than relying solely on memorization. This structured approach ensures that students move from supported learning to independent application at an appropriate pace.
History
At our school, we teach history as more than a collection of names and dates—it is the unfolding story of God’s sovereign plan throughout time. From a biblical worldview, we understand that history is ultimately His Story, revealing how God has worked through people, nations, and events to accomplish His purposes. Students are encouraged to see themselves as part of this larger narrative, called to live faithfully in their own moment of history. In alignment with the Florida State Standards for Social Studies.
Science
Science is the study of God’s creation. The Bible tells us in Genesis 1 that God made the heavens and the earth with order and purpose. When we explore patterns, systems, and living things, we are discovering the wisdom of our Creator. Florida’s science standards help us investigate the world through observation, experimentation, and problem-solving—skills that also teach us to be faithful stewards of God’s creation (Genesis 2:15).
Bible
This curriculum helps students explore the Bible from Genesis onward. They learn to study God’s Word for themselves, understand its historical context, apply it to daily life, and confidently defend their faith. Students grow in knowledge, wisdom, and a love for God’s Word.
